Email: rmmatt05@louisville.edu One of the top young coaches in the country, Jeff Brohm will be back this season and coach the quarterbacks for head coach Steve Kragthorpe. He was also elevated to assistant head coach and will be the passing game coordinator. In his four years with the Cardinals, Brohm has tutored two-time first team All-Conference USA and Co-Offensive Player of the Year Stefan LeFors and the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year Brian Brohm, the youngest brother of the fourth-year coach. Despite missing two games with an injury, Brian earned second team All-BIG EAST accolades after throwing for 3,049 yards and 16 touchdowns. Under Brohm's guidance, the passing offense ranked seventh in the nation and stood fifth in passing efficiency. Jeff tutored Brian to one of the finest seasons ever by a sophomore quarterback for the Cardinals. Brian finished second in the nation in passing efficiency and completed 68.8 percent of his throws, the second-best mark in school history. In 2004, Jeff guided LeFors to finish first in the nation in passing efficiency and completion percentage, and watched as the southpaw narrowly missed setting NCAA records in both categories. A native of Louisville and one of four family members to earn letters on the gridiron at U of L, Jeff wrapped up his four-year collegiate career as one of the most prolific offensive players to ever don a Cardinal jersey. A three-year starter for the Cards, Jeff ranks among U of L's all-time leaders for passing yards (No. 7- 5,451), touchdown passes (No. 5 - 38), completions (No. 8 - 402), total offense (No. 6 - 6,430) and completion percentage (No. 6 - .562). Voted the Cards' MVP in 1992 and 1993, Jeff will always be remembered for a gritty performance in leading U of L to an 18-7 victory over Michigan State in the 1993 Liberty Bowl. Playing with two steel pins and one steel plate in the index finger of his throwing hand, Jeff completed 19-of-29 passes for 197 yards and a touchdown amidst 20-degree temperatures and freezing rain to earn the game's MVP award. Brohm also played two seasons in the Cleveland Indians organization while in college. Following his playing days at U of L, Jeff began a seven-year career in the NFL. He started his NFL career in 1994 with the San Diego Chargers who played in Super Bowl XXIX. He played for the San Francisco 49'ers from 1995-1997 where he was the backup quarterback to Hall of Famer Steve Young in 1997. From 1998-2000, he played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Denver Broncos, and Cleveland Browns. In 2001, he played in the XFL for the Orlando Rage and was named first team All- XFL as he owned the league's highest QB rating at 99.9. Jeff first rose to football glory at local Trinity High School where he was named Mr. Football for the state of Kentucky in 1988 after leading the Shamrocks to a state championship. He was also named the Kentucky High School Player of the decade for the 1980's before moving onto U of L. Jeff is married to the former Jennifer Hawkins and the couple has a son, Brady. |
