LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Josh Richmond's RBI single with two out in the bottom of the 11th plated the game-winner in a 3-2 win over Butler Wednesday.

The Bulldogs (4-12) took a 1-0 lead with two out in the second inning on an RBI single by Michael Letzter.

Louisville (13-7) tied the game at one in the bottom of the third. Stewart Ijames hit a one out single, fellow freshman Drew Haynes followed with a bunt single, and Richmond's first RBI single of the game made it 1-1.

Justin McClanahan opened the Cardinal fourth with his eighth double of the season, extending his career-long and team best hit streak to 14 games. After a flyout to left by Dominguez moved McClanahan to third and Jeff Arnold's RBI fielder's choice put the Cards up 2-1.

In the Butler half of the seventh, a throwing error on McClanahan allowed the tying run to score.

In the 11th, Greg Del George walked with one away and freshman Nate Holland, a late defensive replacement, drilled a single to left to put two on with two away. That's when Richmond smoked a single down the left field line, scoring Del George easily from second for the game winner.

Cardinal reliever Gabriel Shaw, the sixth pitcher of the day for UofL, evened his record at 1-1 with the win, tossing the final 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing a hit and striking out one.

Butler's Tyler Szymczak (0-1) was saddled with the loss, giving up the winning run on five hits and two walks in 2.2 IP.

On a staff day, Dean Kiekhefer started for the Cards, allowing a run on two hits and a walk, striking out three in two innings.

Neil Holland twirled two scoreless, giving up two hits and striking out two. Matt Lea also tossed two scoreless innings, giving up two hits, walking one and striking out two.

Gavin Logsdon gave up an unearned run on a hit, striking out one in an inning of work, and freshman Thomas Royse was solid, allowing a pair of hits, while striking out two in 2.1 scoreless innings.

Ijames posted his first career three-hit game, while Haynes, Richmond and McClanahan each had two hits for the Cards.

The Cards celebrated Elementary School Day as nine different schools were represented at the park. The announced crowd of 2,874 was the fifth largest in Patterson Stadium history.

The Cardinals make their first trip to Pittsburgh since 1978, and for the first time as a member of the BIG EAST, to face the Panthers in the first of three Friday at 6:00 p.m. Pitt took two of three from the Cards last season in The Ville. No internet broadcasts will be available from Pittsburgh.
