LOUISVILLE, Ky. - For the second straight year, the University of Louisville, teaming up with the Greater Louisville Sports Commission, will be hosting the NCAA Southeast Regional Cross Country Championship. The event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10, at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park.
Admission will be $5 per car for parking with the men's 10K meet kicking off all of the racing action at 11 am, followed by the women's 6K meet taking place at 12:15 pm. Included in this year's race are North Carolina State and North Carolina, both of which are ranked in the top 30 in the nation. As the teams have a trip to nationals on their mind, this year's race is sure to be a very exciting and competitive one.
The 21st ranked North Carolina State Wolfpack look to repeat last year's performance in the NCAA Southeast Regional meet where they took home first place. They are coming off of a second place finish in the ACC championship in Charlottesville. The Wolfpack are led this year by junior Brittany Tinsley, senior Angelina Blackmon, and ACC Freshman of the Year Colleen Wetherbee.
No. 26 North Carolina enters the regional meet riding a solid fourth place finish at the ACC championship. Brie Felnagle and Megan Kaltenbach led the Tar Heels as the duo both earned All-ACC honors as Felnagle finished third and Kaltenbach took home 10th. The Tar Heels are also ranked second behind only NC State in the most recent USTFCCCA Regional Poll.
Both Duke and Virginia Tech look to build on last year's success as they finished second and third respectively. Junior Maddie McKeever has been the Blue Devils top performer all year and looks to improve on her fourth place overall finish in last year's NCAA Southeast Regional. The Virginia Tech Hokies are coming off a fifth place finish at the ACC championship, led by junior Tasmin Fanning who finished fourth overall. This year's Southeast Regional is expected to be a tight hard-fought race as each team battles for a trip to Terre Haute.
