Jonathan comes to U of L from Ft. Thomas, Ky and Villa Madonna Academy where he was coached by Michael Barker. He placed fourth at the 2007 Kentucky High School State Championships, receiving All-American consideration. He also placed fifth at the state meet in 2006, earning All-American status. He was the Villa Madonna's team MVP in 2006 and 2007. Bender was a National Merit Finalist and a finalist for the Kentucky State Wendy's High School Heisman Award. He also dove for Tri State Diving where he was coached by Paul Glassman and Lori Rapp. As a U of L GEMS scholar, he received automatic acceptance to U of L's medical school. He was also recruited by Yale, Dayton and Miami.
Personal: He is the son of J.David and Nancy Bender. He plans to major in Biology, Pre-Medicine. He was born August 19, 1989.
