Paul's leadership was valued as he served as captain of the Cardinals in 2006-07. He is a major depth player throughout the dual meet season. In 2005-06 Paul set his lifetime best in the 500-free at the Indiana Invitational. He had strong showings in the backstroke events particularly against Wright State, IU and the BIG EAST. As a freshman, Paul quickly proved to be a point scorer for U of L. At the 2005 Conference Championship, he made the finals in the 100-back, 200-back, 500-free and finished eighth in each. A native Louisvillian, Augustus came to U of L from Ballard High School where he swam for J.C. Barnett. He captained the Lakeside Seahawks where he swam for Mike DeBoor. He earned the Principal's Leadership Award, was a USA Swimming Academic All American, a national nominee for a Wendy's High School Heisman and a Presidential Honor Roll member. He is also a Sportsmen's Supper Club of Louisville Scholarship winner. He was second team All-State and made consideration for All-American in the 100-back. Personal: He is the son of Neal and Anne Augustus. His major is mathematics. He was born Sept. 19, 1985.
